NK 10 km 2018

Written by: Luuk Wijering

On the second day of the Olympics Lotte and Luuk competed in the national 10 km championship during the Groet uit Schoorl run. Haasje coach Miranda took part as well.
On the way to Schoorl we heard that Sven Kramer had won the 5000 meter. Would we be able to be successful too? Lotte was kinda nervous. She wanted to be faster than 38 minutes and to become 4th in the juniors A category. If everything would go well she could even take 3rd place. Luuk was confident in a good race. He expected to come close to Sander van den Hoogen's club record, which dates back to 2004.

It looked liked it was going to be chilly, but during the warm up the sun came through and a weather forecast update told us no precipitation was to be expected during the race. Nevertheless, circumstances were not perfect due to the strong wind. The men's race started first and the women took off five minutes later. Luuk ran a PB and was only six seconds slower than the club record. Miranda was not content with her race and Lotte did have an offday, although she took 4th place in her category.
