NK Indoor 2018

Written by: Margo Heurman & Vera Feitsma

Saturday
Saturday February 17 was the first day of the national championships indoor in Apeldoorn. Moniek Riemersma, Margo Heurman, and Marloes Oosterwegel had to perform  in an almost full stadium today.

Margo had to compete first. It was her NK debut. Despite suffering from nerves (there were a lot of spectators) she started her 800 meter race strongly. The lack of practice in the weeks before the nationals made the last 200 meter really tough. Nevertheless, Margo improved her indoor PB to 2.24:98.
Hereafter Marloes' and Moniek's race was coming up. Both took part in the 60 meter. This year there was much competition. In the series of our own Haasjes Marloes had to compete against Nadine Visser and Moniek had to compete even against Dafne Schippers. With 8.01 Moniek came very close to her PB which is the club record as well. Marloes had a bad start unfortunately and therefore she finished in 8.32. Both of them did not qualify for the semi finals, but they would get another chance in the 200 meter on Sunday.

Sunday
Five (!) Haasjes took part in Omnisport on Sunday. Marloes and Moniek started the day with the 200m race. A difficult event because of the sharp turns in the indoor stadium. Especially when you have to start in the inner lanes (Marloes lane 2 and Moniek lane 1). Marloes had a slow start due to a lack of speed and explosive power, although her result was not too bad. Moniek, however, had a good start (even after a false start), but she could still feel yesterday's race in her legs and therefore the 200 meters became very long.
Marloes and Moniek had to run only one lap, Kamiel had to run fifteen! He started behind the pack. After a few laps he passed some of the other athletes, although he could not close the gap to the next group. “I'm not satisfied with this race, but it was'nt bad either”, Kamiel said after his race.
Hurdle specialists Bram and Vera were up next in the 60m hurdles. Bram could not be happy about his races in the series and the semi final. He had one of those days everything goes wrong. Vera ran a PB in her NK Indoor debut. It was the third PB this season already. Both athletes are looking forward to the NSK indoor to pass those five obstacles even faster.

On both days the Haasjes were supported by friends and family in the stands and others were following the live stream and supporting our Haasjes via social media. All results are to be found here.
